Terms and Conditions
To make this terms and conditions document a bit more readable, the client or person contracting for Hinterlands Press services is referred to as You.
PUBLISHING RIGHTS: By submitting a manuscript and any related graphics for book design you are attesting that you have obtained all rights and permissions to publish them and are solely responsible for the validity of copyrights, trademarks and ownership. You agree to indemnify, hold harmless and defend Hinterlands Press, Clif Graves, and Laurie Graves from any and all libel and copyright and permission infringement action resulting from materials you have provided.
CONFIDENTIALITY: All information and materials provided are considered confidential and only for use by Hinterlands Press to provide a quote or complete a project. Provided information and project materials will not be given out or shared with any third party.
RATES: Most book design projects will be done for a flat rate price agreed upon prior to work starting. Any changes to add work after the agreement (change orders) will be billed at $45 an hour.
Support and Training provided In person or online using Zoom will be billed at $35 an hour. If travel is required, cost of travel cost and time will be additional.
BOOK DESIGN SERVICES: The Hinterlands Press fee for design of a print book includes the following: • Page layout to format your nonfiction, novel, poetry, or children's book for publishing using Amazon KDP (printed and/or e-book) or IngramSpark. • One 45-minute Zoom remote support / design discussion. • Finalized layouts provided to the author for review and approval. • Most simple format adjustments or corrections are included in basic price. • Extensive revisions, such as substantial changes to the text, will be an additional cost of $45 an hour. • Client must supply the ISBN # for inclusion on the copyright page. • Print-ready PDF of the book interior to send to Amazon KDP or IngramSpark. • Digital delivery of the print ready book files.
COVER DESIGN SERVICES: Print-ready PDF of the book interior to send to Amazon KDP or IngramSpark. • Digital delivery of the print ready cover files.
e-BOOK DESIGN SERVICES: Page layout to format your nonfiction, novel, poetry, or children's book for publishing using Amazon KDP e-book or IngramSpark. • E-Pub of the book to send to client’s printer. • Digital delivery of the e-book files.
TEXT EDITING: You are responsible for the completeness and quality of the copy editing of the manuscript or other related text provided to HinterlnadsPress. The book design or cover design service does not include copy or text editing services, or anything else not specified in the included above.
SUPPORT AND TRAINING: Help you to understand and navigate the complexities of the self-publishing industry. • Help you get up to speed with what you need to know about editing and book design, including ISBNs, barcodes, printing, and your options for low-cost book design and formatting tools. • Help you understand your printing and distribution options, including Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Apple Books, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble, and advantages / limitations of local printing. • Personalized support for publishing your book on Amazon KDP or IngramSpark.
ATTRIBUTION: Hinterlands Press requires design credit appear on books copyright page such as : “Book Design by Clif Graves of Hinterlands Press” or “Book Design and Cover design by Clif Graves of Hinterlands Press”
ADVERTISING RIGHTS: Hinterlands Press retains the right to use your final book cover design, name, and book title in our portfolio and to market and promote your book and our services.
RESPONSIBILITIES: You are fully responsible for proofing the book and/ or cover design provided by Hinterlands Press. It is strongly suggested that you request a proof from the printer before publishing or ordering any copies of the book. At no time will Hinterlands Press be held financially or legally responsible for any problems, costs, fees or expenses incurred by client as a result of the book design or the book cover design.
LIABILITY: Hinterlands Press is not liable for incidental, indirect, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages of any kind, including loss of revenues or profits, loss of business or reputation, or loss of data, in any way related to our services. Hinterlands Press is not responsible for any claim, loss, or injury based on errors or any other inaccuracies appearing on our site or in our your’ written documents, including without limitation as a result of any breach of the terms and conditions of this agreement.
UNANTICIPATED DELAYS: No party shall be liable to the other for any delay or failure to perform due to causes beyond its reasonable control.
PAYMENT: You agree to pay an initial deposit of half the total cost before work will begin on the project. The remaining balance is due upon approval of final book design. Hinterlands Press will not release finished files until final payment has been received. The final payment is also also your final approval of the project and all its products. Hinterlands Press retains the right to discontinue, withhold, or suspend services should payments not be paid for a contracted job.
CANCELLATION POLICY: You or Hinterlands Press may cancel this agreement at any time by providing written notice to the other party. If either you or Hinterlands Press cancels a project before work has started, neither you or Hinterlands Press is under further obligation to the other, and any signed contract will be considered canceled. If you should stop or cancel a design job once work on it has started, you agrees to forfeit 50% of the project total sum. This is to cover resources and time taken during the project up to the point of cancellation. The client will have no rights to any initial samples sent to the client and agrees to destroy them.
COMPLETE AGREEMENT: This agreement is the entire agreement Between you and Hinterlands Press. No additional promises or conditions, written or oral, apply to this agreement that are not included herein.
MODIFICATION OF AGREEMENT: Modification of any provisions of this agreement is not valid and enforceable unless confirmed in writing and signed by all parties either in hard copy or by e‐signature.
SERVICEABILITY: The finding of any provision of this agreement to be invalid or unenforceable does not render the remaining provisions invalid or unenforceable.
ACCEPTANCE: Payment of the initial invoice for services constitutes understanding and acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
